So, kinda a weird question, now that things have settled down a bit...

But what is an "idol", exactly? I've heard it mentioned a few times now while going around the city and getting my bearings, but... I think my mental image of what an "idol" is, is different from what people might be talking about?

An idol is someone who becomes very popular, usually through something like singing, dancing or some other kind of performance and becomes idolised by a lot of people.

In the Japanese Lexicon, it means:

A singer, usually female, who is somewhere between the human years of, I don't know Mid 10s to Mid 20s, typically.

They sing fairly uniform/safe music for maximized potential. The CDs of such are usually comically overpriced.

And a large amount of them are publicly banned from having personal relationships to allow superfans of the idol to have unrealistic expectations that she belongs to them / will marry them.

Oh it is an object of worship.

It just happens to be a living, breathing young girl-woman.

Not a God in the traditional sense.

But they're put on a pedestal and deified on unrealistic expectations, so to speak. And they're definitely made an object of worship that represents 'something' to her fans.

Pretty much.

You're entirely on the nose, Aegis.

It's just a variation of the thing, is all. Hence the term "Idol" for it. Because they are people who are idolized.

The only difference is the idol isn't a golden calf or a wooden totem or a set of preserved animal bones in a furskin.

Maybe the Idol industry finally got a solid foothold in the Dueling industry?

It's basically like a sport, essentially. Its particulars most closely resemble what's called Wrestling, I think.

Well, it helps that most of our monsters are holograms, not copies of the full out flesh and blood creatures.

Well regular Duels around here, you'll ache and be pretty damn sore if you get hit really damn hard and might get knocked unconscious.

But it's rare for it to actually course severe injury or death on Earth.

Hell, if I could get the money, I'd be willing to take you to the Kaiba Corp Stadium to watch one of them. Though we could always watch one on TV, if you'd like, Aegis.

I actually have a pretty big TV provided for me in my current dorm room, so I'd be willing to sneak you in.

And we can discuss the concept of money and how to earn it, during commercials.

Yes. Show up near or on the pier, and I'll help sneak you in.
